The Kingdom

This is a DC Comics event, even though it was a faily self contained event. It consisted of a prelude issue, Gog, and The Kingdom #1-2 which are the beginning and the end of this story, and then there are 5 issues in the middle, each with different stars and artists. There is only one writer though, which is Mark Waid.

This is a continuation of the story Waid and Alex Ross told in Kingdom Come. Some of the same characters appear in this series. This is a time travelling story, where the characters from the Kingdom Come universe (which is the future of DCU) travel back in time to the present DCU, in order to prevent the bad guy Gog, to annihilate all space time.

The time travel story by itself was not very compelling to me, we've seen this kind of story before, plus the solution to it was too sudden and easy. It almost feels like the whole point of the series was to introduce the Hypertime. And I still don't get the difference between Hypertime and multi-universes.

However the stories in the middle of this series are what interested me the most. They all take place in the future, where each issue's star learns that their universe is going to end before the end of the day, and we see how these people choose to spend their last day. These are children of current DC heroes, so it is interesting to meet Batman's son, Flash's daughter and son, Plastic Man's son, Dick Grayson's daughter. Even though my knowledge of the DCU is very limited, I still recognized some of the characters.

Not my favorite series, but at times interesting.
