Mouse Guard Volume One: Fall 1152

This book received very good reviews and was touted as the best indy comic book of 2006. I decided to wait for this first mini to conclude and read it all at once, and my expectations were pretty high.

Unfortunately I must say I wasn't blown away as I was hoping I would be. This is an all ages book about mice, however it didn't appeal to my sensibilities. I felt it was too cute and simple, and I just didn't enjoy this too much.

The format is different from the typical comic book, this book is square. It allows Petersen to draw beautiful scenery and detailed shapes. I certainly do like his art, including the colors.

But the story just didn't grab me and the characters were not very well developed. I could hardly remember each mouse's characteristics.

I am sure this would appeal to a lot of kids and adults, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. Great art though.
